Woodland Nursery Ideas For Girls And Boys

If you’re thinking about doing a woodland nursery, I have tons of adorable woodland nursery ideas to share with you today.

One of the things that I love most about a woodland themed nursery is that it can be interpreted in any color or style from modern to floral to mountainous and everything in between.

This versatility makes it great whether you’re having a girl, a boy or just want to keep things neutral.

It can feature woodland creatures such as deer, bears, foxes, owls, raccoons, bunnies, squirrels or birds. It may also be accented with trees, pinecones or toadstools.

How these adorable flora and fauna decorate your baby’s room is up to you. It could be on the walls, the bedding, displayed on books, stuffed animals or the rug.

The possibilities are exciting!

I’m going to show you some of these adorable woodland nursery ideas and hopefully you’ll be inspired to get decorating.

Let’s get started!

Woodland Nursery Ideas For Wall Décor

The first idea I want to go over is wall decor because you may wish to figure out what you’re going to do before bringing in the big stuff like the crib and dresser.

Some woodland nursery ideas for the wall include woodland themed wall decals, wallpaper, framed art, a mural, an accent wall or a combination of these designs.

Wall Decals

One of my favorite ways to decorate a nursery wall is with wall decals.

Here’s an adorable example:

I love the idea of woodland wall decals for a few of reasons:

Wallpaper

If you want to take it a step further, try peel and stick wallpaper to bring your nursery design to life.

Like wall decals, peel and stick wallpaper is DIY – there is no need for a professional installer.

And there are lots of fun woodland prints to choose from.

Here’s an easy idea:

This woodland nursery idea only has two steps:

First, just pick your favorite woodland peel and stick wallpaper (check out these cute ones here).

Then have a custom wood name made to display your baby’s unique name.

Super simple! Yet a big impact.

Wall Art

If you’re not into wallpaper or decals, you can simply hang some woodland themed art work.

A popular way to style a nursery with wall art is doing a gallery wall behind the crib.

Here are some examples:

This gorgeous wall art is from Etsy. I personally think that Etsy is the best place to shop for nursery wall art, and it’s not hard to see why. There are so many different artists selling unique designs you can’t find elsewhere.

Plus:

A lot of them can actually be printed from home!

This is another great example of gallery art with woodland creatures. And I love how they did the pop of color on the crib.

Additionally, the Bailey woodland rug makes a fantastic accent to the room and would work well with any color scheme too.

Wall Paint

Let’s move onto paint. A little paint can go a long way to refresh or create design elements in baby’s room.

One of the most basic ideas is to simply paint an accent wall in your woodland nursery.

For example:

Here they painted this gorgeous deep green accent wall. They added some wood to make mountains, but you could also just hang wall art, a custom name or wall decals on top of your accent wall instead.

If you want to take your painting skills a step further, try creating a design like this:

While these mountains may look sophisticated, you can bring this cool woodland nursery idea to life yourself. Just use painters tape to make the lines and a few different colors of paint.

Book Shelf Woodland Nursery Ideas

Every nursery needs a book shelf. You’ll be reading to your little one sooner than you think! But it’s also a really cute way to decorate the nursery in your woodland theme.

For example:

These are decorative floating shelves that display the fronts of the books. They’re often placed above a dresser or piece of furniture in the nursery. Trust me when I say you’ll need a much larger space for books down the road, but for decorative purposes these are perfect.

Use the floating shelves to place woodland themed board books, stuffies, picture frames, plants or other small woodland knick knacks. (It’s also where I keep my son’s monitoring camera!).

Some woodland animal books that my children have loved that would look adorable displayed in a book shelf like this include:

Storage Ideas For Woodland Themed Nursery

A place to keep toys and books is essential to every nursery. Personally, I am a big fan of cube storage. It’s really easy to sort toys into the cubes (and you can use them like book shelves too).

More importantly, you can choose the style of cubes to match your decor or theme.

The following photo is a great example of just how tidy, functional and cute cube storage can be in a woodland nursery:

The cube storage shown in the photo is two of the IKEA Kallax (I have the same ones and although I haven’t loved IKEA furniture much since my college days, this one is actually really solid).

I use hyacinth cubes in mine because I have found that the fabric cubes lose their shape over time and get wrinkled. Plus, the texture of the hyacinth cubes works perfectly for a woodland nursery.

More Woodland Nursery Decor Ideas

After decorating your walls and creating unique spaces for storage and books, there are all the little details of a woodland nursery to fill in from curtains to rugs to crib sheets and laundry baskets.

But I’m just going to touch on one more trendy woodland nursery idea that I love.

Hanging Canopy

What do you think of this bed canopy? I think it makes such a cute tent for a woodland nursery.

Instead of hanging the canopy over the crib, this photo shows the Wonder Space canopy being used to create a reading corner. Just place your rocking chair or pillows under the canopy to make the space cozy.

They’ve also added these fox storage baskets which can be used for laundry or to store toys such as stuffed animals.

Woodland Creature Nursery Ideas: Final Thoughts

I hope you found some design inspiration for your baby’s woodland nursery.

Preparing your baby’s room is such a special time, so enjoy it to the fullest.

While you’re getting inspired, add any of the little details to your baby registry.

Woodland themed stuffies, board books, diaper changing pads, a laundry basket or anything else you find that would make a great addition to your nursery can be organized onto your baby registry list (whether you decide to buy it yourself or wait for someone else to).

Your baby is going to love their enchanting room.
