This lactation smoothie recipe has the delicious chocolate, coconut and almond flavors of an Almond Joy candy, but is made with healthy ingredients that boost milk supply.
It’s delicious as a morning breakfast smoothie or an any-time-of-day snack to get your breastmilk flowing.
It’s also great for satisfying a sweet tooth!

What makes this lactation smoothie milk boosting?
This lactation smoothie uses galactagogue foods that naturally promote and support breastmilk production.
There are three galactagogues in this recipe including:
Brewers Yeast
A dietary supplement used to enhance breastmilk production.
Almond Butter
Almonds are rich in calcium, iron, magnesium, healthy fats and antioxidants. All of these nutrients are vital for breastfeeding mothers to maintain and boost milk supply. Raw almonds are best, so I suggest using a raw almond butter for this smoothie if possible.
Coconut
Coconut has a reputation for increasing breastmilk supply. It also is a great source of healthy fats and medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), which provide energy to a breastfeeding mother. This recipe contains both unsweetened coconut milk and coconut flakes.
Lactation Smoothie Recipe
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 TBSP almond butter
- 1 TBSP cocoa powder
- 1 TBSP unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1 tsp brewers yeast
- 1 TBSP honey
- 1/2 – 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk
Add all ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Increase liquid if you like it less thick.
Lactation Smoothie Substitutions
Banana
Don’t have a frozen banana? Simply add a 1/2 cup of ice to get that frozen texture.
Almond Butter
If you don’t have almond butter, go ahead and substitute peanut butter. It isn’t a galactagogue like almonds, but it will still be delicious!
Unsweetened Coconut Milk
You can substitute any milk you like here. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk is another great option. I also often use 1/4 cup Fage Greek yogurt with 3/4 cup water instead of milk (great for a protein boost!)
Enjoy!
